To celebrate our growth, we wanted to pick a city that would reflect our passion for 3D, AEC, and Open Source.
What could be better than Athens? A patchwork of different architectural styles, and significant archaeological temples showcasing historic wealth.
Why Speckle Retreats? 🤔
It’s the best way to meet In Real Life (IRL) and work better as a team! Our mutual passion to make an impact on our Community and Industry led us to where we are today. Between productive sessions filled with lively debates, feature development, and user support, we found time to explore the ancient city, visit historical sites, and try sculpting analogue statues! 🏛️
What did we achieve in a week? 🏆
This experience was enriching both personally and professionally. We were able to connect and collaborate on different projects:
- The connectors team organised a couple of workshops including handling parameters and keeping track of elements across different applications
- The web team spent time working on improving Speckle’s viewer
- The community team did lots of user support.
We had the chance to meet Anthony Danon, one of Speckle’s first investors, who took us through an insightful presentation of his VC, Cocoa, and answered any questions we had.
What happened in Athens? 🇬🇷
Because Athens is a city famous for its sculptures, we went on a sculpting experience where we learned how to use sculpting tools and techniques to carve art objects. We even got to bring our very own artwork home as a souvenir! 🏛️
Finally, we thought the best way to explore would be a scavenger hunt. We split up into teams and received an instant Polaroid camera, a number of films and an envelope with a set of instructions and a map. Lots of fun memories were captured on this day. 📸
Oh, and let's not forget about the food... the delicious Greek cuisine had us all feeling inspired and ready to tackle the next challenge! 🍴💪

The key takeaway of this Speckle Retreat is the connections we built as a team. It was great to work together, challenge each other and bond in person while sharing our passion and commitment for the Speckle platform. 🤝
Overall, the work retreat was an unforgettable experience filled with hard work and fun.
