Changing The Way We Work In AEC with Snaptrude and Speckle
Snaptrude offers a web-based collaborative building design tool supporting real-time collaboration and data insights on budget, climate consideration, and compliance. This article covers the role of Speckle in enabling data exchange and accessibility with Snaptrude.
Snaptrude’s Journey With Revit
Snaptrude recently launched its Snaptrude<>Revit bi-directional link which received much appreciation from the AEC community. This journey began thanks to Speckle and its Connectors. Speckle Connectors help users extract and exchange data between popular AEC applications like Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, and more, helping create highly interoperable workflows.
The Snaptrude<>Revit link is built on top of Speckle’s Dynamo Connector, allowing AEC professionals to import and export models between Revit and Snaptrude easily. This workflow is a powerful alternative to Autodesk’s BIM Collaborate workflow, enabling design changes, client presentations, and sign-offs on Snaptrude's cloud-based collaborative platform. Furthermore, this workflow allows editing BIM elements on Snaptrude’s platform that can be reconciled back to Revit later.
Speckle x Snaptrude
Speckle gave Snaptrude the confidence that an interoperable workflow was possible. The Connector helped extract Revit data, which Snaptrude could access through Speckle’s API. Snaptrude then uses profiles and advanced algorithms to reconstruct Revit elements from the Speckle data. In the latest version of the bi-directional link, Snaptrude uses Revit Dynamo and Speckle’s Dynamo node for a powerful integration.
The exported Revit model on Snaptrude is a complete BIM with all elements and parameters intact. The model elements can be modified on Snaptrude and reconciled to the Revit model for documentation. It avoids the need to rework the model to evaluate the impacts of design changes.
Changing Collaborative Work In AEC
Design to construction is a collaborative effort between many stakeholders but is very siloed. Despite the advances in cloud and web technologies, the AEC industry is handicapped by broken legacy tools. This leads to miscommunication, significant delays in project delivery, and cost repercussions.
Speckle, with its interoperability solutions, and Snaptrude, with its web-based collaborative BIM, are breaking these siloes created by existing AEC applications. “Thanks to the team at Speckle for all their work! It’s helped us deliver robust solutions for the industry, and we’re sure it’ll help thousands of professionals worldwide,” Altaf Ganihar, Founder and CEO at Snaptrude.
It was a pleasure to work with the smart folks at Snaptrude; it's rewarding to see how our technology is enabling and empowering such innovative solutions.
