October's improvements and fixes

October brought many improvements and fixes across the web app and connectors. On web, we released the Presentations feature, and made improvements to saved views and Intelligence, and in the connectors we made significant performance improvements with optimized Revit and IFC models, property set support in Civil 3D and fixes across Rhino, Grasshopper and Power BI connectors.

Web

Presentations

Early in October we released Presentations – the easiest way to turn a group of saved views into a beautiful, interactive and easily shareable 3D presentation. Since the release we’ve made several improvements:

  • Slide transitions have been slowed down to give a smoother feel.
  • Presentation now default to be locked, meaning you cannot interact with. This gives you even
  • To interact with the model, and break out of the presentation’s planned story flow, simply unlock the presentation in the top right corner.
  • More performant federated presentations: All models in a presentation are now preloaded up front so that slides load instantly when you navigate a presentation.
  • We've just launched a more optimized Presentation loading experience that will preload all of the models from all slides on initial setup so that when you actually move between the slides you don't need to wait for the viewer to load/unload things
  • Presentations now loop when you reach the last slide
  • Added a link to get back to the viewer from a presentation

Saved views

  • Added support for embedding individual saved views. Select “Embed view” from the ··· menu on a saved view.
  • Fixed an issue that meant users on touch devices couldn’t access all actions in the Saved views panel.

Intelligence public beta

  • Speckle Intelligence is now in public beta. Get access via the waitlist on speckle.systems/intelligence and make sure your workspace is on either a Starter or Business plan.
  • Some of the recent improvements
    • Added a widget to create AI renders.
    • Added support for duplicating dashboards.
    • Dashboards now open in a viewing state. Click “Edit dashboard” to start editing.
    • Added a Dashboards tab on project pages that lists any projects.
    • And so much more – improvements happen daily based on feedback from beta users.

Additional improvements

  • Embedding models from private projects is now supported in all plans.
  • Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the commenting window to get stuck when creating a comment.
  • Fixed an issue that told newly invited users that they still weren’t authorized to access a workspace.
  • Got rid of the Unlimited projects and models add-on from the Starter and Business plans. If you wish to upload unlimited data, reach out.
  • Added Canada as a supported data region.

Connector plugins

Optimized Revit data transfer

We've optimized how the Revit connector publishes geometry to Speckle. Instead of storing the same element multiple times (e.g. family instances, columns, furniture), the connector now only creates a single copy of identical geometry.

Model sizes reduced by over 35% on average, with FF&E models containing thousands of repeated instances seeing reductions over 80%. This means faster publishing, smaller files, and quicker viewer loading for your web app or Power BI workflows.

Faster load times and improved workflows: When loading in AutoCAD, Rhino, SketchUp, or Blender, repeated elements now load noticeably faster as blocks or components. Speed up your editing workflows by only changing one instance in order for all instances to update automatically.

Civil 3D property sets

  • Civil 3D now receives property sets, preserving attribute data, specifications, and custom properties when transferring models. This maintains data integrity in your workflows.

Additional improvements

Revit

  • Face-Based Family Levels: Improved level extraction for face-based family instances ensures proper categorization and organization in your model hierarchy.
  • Unnamed File Support: The connector no longer crashes when working with unsaved Revit files, allowing you to collaborate on early-stage designs without saving first.
  • Material Property Handling: Materials with PBR properties outside the standard 0-1 range are now automatically clamped to valid values, preventing receive failures when transferring materials between platforms.

Grasshopper

  • Account Selection Fix: Account switching via right-click now works correctly when URL inputs are connected.

Rhino

  • Material Property Validation: PBR material properties are now validated and clamped when converting to other platforms.

Power BI

  • Federated models with versions now display version IDs in the model name column. This makes it easier to track which version you’re working with when you load multiple versions from the same model.
  • Removed the “Update” button when you publish your reports to Power BI web app.
